Umag a town and a port on the north-western coast of Istria, is situated 13 km northwest of Buje. It represents kind of an entrance and an exit from Croatia to Europe and the first tourist destination in Istria. It is a famous business and tourist centre situated just 40 km from Trieste, 150 km from Ljubljana and 50 nm from Venice.
The old town centre is situated on a peninsula between two shallow bays. The north, more spacious bay is protected by a breakwater and was transformed into a port.
