Adriatic Shellfish Festival
Adriatic Shellfish Festival
It is among the most eagerly awaited culinary events in northwestern Istria, honoring the abundance of the Adriatic Sea when shellfish are at their tastiest.
The event continues for a month, typically from mid-February to mid-March.
Estimated dates: February 15 – March 22, 2026.
At this time, shellfish are at their peak, being the most meaty and flavorful.
The event occurs in the area known as the "cluster" of northwestern Istria, encompassing Novigrad, Umag, Buje, and Brtonigla.
Numerous famous restaurants and taverns (ranging from coastal to inland) take part. All of them provide uniquely crafted menus featuring a minimum of three courses at discounted rates.
What’s available on the menu?
The highlight of the event is scallops, which are regarded as among the finest globally in this region because of the blending of sea and river water (the Mirna estuary). Additionally, you will savor: Mussels, Kunjka, Kušćice (kanaštrela), Oysters, Sea truffles (dondol).
Dishes include mussels on buzara, seafood risottos and pasta, oven-baked scallops, and contemporary options like mussel carpaccio or mussels paired with Istrian truffles.
